Knight-11

Frogbell (1992) is a project made by the artist Jonh Knight  for the project The Campaign by the cultural foundation  Stroom .  In The Campaign project,  artists  were expected to create opinions about public art, and were invited by Stroom to present a proposal for a work at their own chosen location in The Hague .

Jonh Kinght did not want to make a static site specific work but wanted the active participation of the public. Because of the image of the stork in The Hague’s town arms, he proposed the production of thousands of bicycle bells making the croaking sound of a frog. He then designed an advertising campaign to be placed on city busses and for bicycle sheds in which he called on the citizens of The Hague to exchange their Dutch bicycle bells at Stroom, who would ship them to Cuba, and, and, via this art route, circumvent the embargo.
